Black screen problem when recording video with Screen Capture software from RealPlayer, RealOne Player
Please read our disclaimer before recording any media streams. Otherwise your activity could be considered illegal.
RealPlayer, RealOne Player use a DirectShow Overlay for faster, smoother playback of the movie.
A video overlay is invisible to many Windows capture programs, because it is handled by a special video hardware.
Such screen capture software will then record only a solid color rectangle (usually black, pink or blue, the so called "overlay key color").
But all is not lost, the overlay use for playback may be sometimes turned off, at least temporarily for recording.
Here is how to do this:
In the RealPlayer ver. 6.x, 8.x., 10.x:
- Open RealPlayer.
- Select "Tools" -> "Install/Configure Devices..." from the menu.
- In the left "Category" panel click "Hardware".
- In the right panel under "Video card compatibility", click to uncheck "Use optimized video display".
- Click "OK" button.
- Close completely and re-start RealPlayer player.
In the RealOne Player:
- Open RealOne Player.
- Select "Tools" -> "Preferences..." from the menu.
- In the left "Category" panel click "Hardware".
- In the right panel under "Video card compatibility", click to uncheck "Use optimized video display".
- Click "OK" button.
- Close completely and re-start RealOne Player.
